As a student, Ben Kaplan was the recipient of more than two dozen scholarship
prizes—enough to cover almost the entire cost of attending Harvard. And
now he’s returning the favor with his very own scholarship awards program!
Ben’s Power of Family Scholarships™ recognize that when
kids and their parents, mentors, or supporters work together, great things are
bound to happen. To honor and encourage this important partnership, the annual
program awards $10,000 in college scholarships to deserving students across
the nation. To apply for the awards, students of any age submit essays online
at ScholarshipCoach.com by May 15, 2006. (Students are encouraged
to submit essays well before the deadline.)
This unique awards competition asks students—along with their parents,
mentors, coaches, or other supporters—to contribute equally to the application
process: one essay is submitted by the student and a second essay is submitted
by the primary supporter.
Because the program’s emphasis is on content rather than writing style,
entrants are encouraged to include a variety of personal stories, emotional
experiences, anecdotes, and insights. Grades and test scores are not required!
Prior to submitting their essays, many students may find it useful to check out Ben Kaplan's bestselling guide, Essay
Boot Camp, which highlights many useful strategies and tips for crafting award-winning essays.
