OFFICIAL RULES
1. The Power of Family Scholarship Program™ is open to pairs of applicants,
consisting of one student applicant (“student”) and one supporter
applicant (“supporter”). Prizes will be awarded to the student applicant.
The student may be of any age, and must intend to pursue studies at an accredited
institution of higher education. It is not necessary for the student to be currently
enrolled in school or college at the time that the application is submitted.
The supporter must be an important person in the student’s life (such as
a parent, guardian, relative, mentor, coach, or other person) and must be at least
18 years of age at the time that the application is submitted.
All applicants, whether they be a student or supporter, must be citizens or legal residents
of the United States (or within its territories or possessions). All applicants, whether they be a student or supporter, must reside in the U.S.
(or within its territories or possessions), with the exception of applicants who are members of the US armed forces. All applicants,
whether they be a student or supporter, are required to have a current Social
Security number, as well as a current and valid mailing address and e-mail address.
Those entries that are not submitted with all required information and that do
not adhere to the rules will not be considered. The volume of entries makes it
impossible to give individual critiques to entrants.
2. If the student is under the age of 18, the student must represent that a parent
or legal guardian has given him or her permission to apply for this scholarship,
and that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to the Official Rules
on his or her behalf.
3. No purchase necessary. Participation constitutes each applicant’s (including
both the student’s and the supporter’s) full and unconditional agreement
to and acceptance of these Official Rules.
4. To enter, the student and the supporter must complete and concurrently submit
the official electronic entry form in its entirety (including two separate 500-word
essays, one written by the student and another written by the supporter). All
entry materials must be electronically submitted on the official online application
page of the ScholarshipCoach.com website by the submission deadline of May 15,
2006 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. All entry materials must be completed
in English. Only one entry is permitted per pair of applicants, and no person
may submit a second entry or be part of another pair of applicants.
5. All materials submitted will become the exclusive property of Waggle Dancer
Media, Inc., or its assigns or successors in interest, and will not be returned.
6. Waggle Dancer Media, Inc. will coordinate and administer the scholarship program.
Waggle Dancer Media, Inc. reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to group
submissions into different categories, and compare an entry with other entires
in that same category. (As an example, Waggle Dancer Media, Inc. may choose to
group submissions based upon the age of the student applicant.) Essays will first
be judged by a pre-screening panel appointed by Waggle Dancer Media, Inc. A group
of scholarship finalists will be determined, and a blue-ribbon panel of judges
will be appointed to select the ten scholarship winners. The decisions of the
judges will be final.
7. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of two separate 500-word essays,
one written by the student and the second written by the student’s supporter.
Each essay should discuss and describe a moment when the student first discovered
a new activity, skill, intellectual discipline, or hobby that sparked a burst
of enthusiasm, passion, or unusual commitment in the student’s life.
Some of the topics that applicants should address in their essays include:
a) How was the student first introduced to the activity?
b) How was the student’s interest encouraged and nurtured?
c) How was mastery of the activity developed?
d) Has this impacted the student’s life in unexpected ways?
e) Has this process of discovery and mastery enabled the student to tap into
other reservoirs of creative and productive power?
f) How has all of this affected the personal relationship between the student
and supporter?
The student’s essay should be written from his or her perspective, and the
supporter’s essay should be written from the supporter’s perspective.
8. Essays will be judged and scored according to pre-defined judging criteria,
which includes:
a) Originality and Creativity
b) Use of Specific Examples and Anecdotes
c) Lessons Learned
d) Significance to Others
e) Cohesion Between Student and Supporter Essays
The score for the student essay and the supporter essay shall be added together
for a total score. In the event of a tie, the submission with the highest combined
score for significance to others will win. In the event of a second tie, the submission
with the highest combined score for originality and creativity will win.
9. Essays must be original and factually accurate, written by the respective applicant,
previously unpublished, free and clear of any other claims of ownership and/or
rights of use, and must not infringe upon any material protected by copyright,

student and the supporter) releases any and all claims to ownership and rights
to the essays submitted, including without limitation rights to copyright and
rights of publicity and privacy contained therein, publication rights, and distribution
rights. Waggle Dancer Media, Inc. (or its assigns or successors in interest, if
